Martin Schulz to Victor Ponta: We have common mission in Europe

President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz on Saturday sent a message of solidarity to Social Democrat leader Victor Ponta, saying he is a good friend and cooperator of Ponta and of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

"Dear friends, I have known Victor Ponta for a long time. ... We have a common mission in Europe, we are also close friends. I wish Victor Ponta all the best for his future," Schulz said in a video message sent on occasion of the launch of Victor Ponta's presidential bid.

Other video messages came from Vice-Chancellor of Germany Sigmar Gabriel, S&D Group leader Gianni Pittella, the prime ministers of Belgium, Serbia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Albania.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta is launching today, September 20, the very day he turns 42, his candidacy to the Romanian Presidency, in an event staged at the National Arena in Bucharest.

Most of the participants are dressed in red shirts, they carry placards, the national flag or small flags with election messages. Other delegates are dressed in the national costumes of the regions they represent. The national anthem and the PSD anthem were performed at the beginning of the event. AGERPRES
