Bulgaria's Pironkova Starts China Open with Victory

Bulgaria's tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova started her participation in the China Open tennis tournament with a victory.

She beat the American Nicole Gibbs by 4:6, 6:2, 7:5, and qualified for the next round. There the Bulgarian tennis player will face Croatian Ajla Tomljanović.

This will be the first match between Pironkova and Tomljanović who is placed under number 68 in the world rankings.

China Open was launched in 2004, and is held in Beijing once a year. It owns the right to host the tournaments of the three international tennis organizations (ATP, WTA and ITF), and is the most comprehensive international tennis event in Asia.

The total prize money of 2014 China Open can reach up to USD 8.1M, including USD 5.58M for WTA tournament and USD 2.52M for ATP tournament.
