Prime Minister Victor Ponta said in an address delivered to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday that Romania rejects any form of outside pressure on other states in Eastern Europe amid the crisis in Ukraine.

'One of the most important crises for our country is the current situation in Ukraine, given the impact on the security of the Eastern Europe countries. /.../ I would like to reconfirm here the clear and firm position of Romania on the crisis in Ukraine. Romania rejects any form of outside pressure on other states in Eastern Europe, which have aspirations for integration in the European Union. Romania firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine', Ponta said in his address to the U.N. General Assembly.

The Romanian head of Government called on the United Nations to get involved and support the OSCE actions.

'We call on the United Nations to get involved and monitor the situation and support the situation on site and the OSCE efforts by specific mechanisms. For years, all the states in the Black Sea area have been declaring that peace and stability are our goals, but stability and security are in danger: the case of Ukraine, of Transdniester, of Abkhazia and now of Donetsk are obstacles to attaining these goals', the prime minister said.AGERPRES
