'Joy of Europe' begins on October 2

BELGRADE - Belgrade will become a place of joy and creativity that children from across the globe will share with their peers and adults as part of the event titled "Joy of Europe" from October 2-5.

This year's event will be 45th in a row, and will start off with a carnival, meaning that participants will stage a walk through Belgrade's pedestrian zone.

The participants of the event are children aged 7-14 from Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Macedonia, Germany, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, France, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.

The countries will represent themselves through music, dance, painting, and other artwork, concerts titled "Meetings for Friendship", exhibitions, and the event will begin with a gala concert on October 5.

The marking of 25 years since the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is a reason for the theme of joy to be the lines from Ljubivoje Rsumovic's "Primer of Children's Rights" reading: "There will be justice in the world, and knowledge and beauty, children will save the planet from hatred and rudeness."
