Nikolic meets participants of 'Joy of Europe'
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic held a reception in Belgrade on Saturday to mark the 45th anniversary of the international children's event 'Joy of Europe' and told the children to stay in touch with their new friends and grow to be good adults.
Nikolic expressed his gratitude to children from the primary schools in Belgrade who welcomed their peers from 19 European countries into their homes.
"In the friendly and open Belgrade, you will always be welcome," said the president's wife Dragica Nikolic, who chairs the 'Joy of Europe' organizing committee.
This event could serve as an example to adults and teach them about friendship, understanding, peace and love, as the values that should be spread around the world, she added.
The 45th international children's festival 'Joy of Europe' opened with a carnival procession in downtown Belgrade.
The participants of the event are children aged 7-14 from Azerbaijan, Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Macedonia, Germany, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, France, Croatia, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.
This year's gathering is dedicated to the anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, which was signed 25 years ago.
