Reformist Bloc: Next Gov't Mandate Not Up to GERB

Election results might show that the Reformist Bloc has already grown into a single political player, Radan Kanev, one of the bloc's leaders, announced.

Kanev, who heads the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), one of the partners of the right-wing coalition, said results came as a surprise to politicians, since they did not expect such a Parliament.

He also reiterated the bloc's stance that the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) is the only coalition partner that can be ruled out.

Kanev underscored the certainty of public and transparent negotiations that the bloc would lead if invited to hold coalition talks.

The party managed to increase its results two times compared to the EU elections, Bozhidar Lukarski, Chair of the Union of Democratic Forces (SDS), argued, explaining the alliance had sought to attract center-right voters who had abstained in the last few votes.

Movement Bulgaria for Citizens (DBG) head Meglena Kuneva added Bulgaria would have to catch up with what the previous cabinet failed to do, e.g. setting deadlines for the accession into Schengen, the Eurozone, the banking union, the energy union and other goals which could boost Bulgaria's growth. Kuneva was adamant no compromises would be made in certain areas such as economy, health and the judiciary.
