Teodor Melescanu, an independent candidate for Romania's president, has stated that anybody wishing to support or join him in the presidential campaign will be welcome, provided that the support will include not only him as a candidate but his political programme too.

When asked on Tuesday, at DC News, whether he believed or not, in case Klaus Iohannis exited the presidential race, in the possibility that National Liberal Party would support his candidacy, Teodor Melescanu, a former head of Romania' Foreign Information Service (SIE), said that: "It's hard to make scenarios based on hypothetical situations. However, what I do know is that I have a very clear stand: I am an independent candidate. Anybody wishing to support or join me in the campaign is welcome to do so, especially when we're talking about a political structure of such a great importance in our political life, but with one condition: they will have to support not only me as a candidate, but also my political programme", said Teodor Melescanu.

He showed that, in case the courts adopt a decision of incompatibility in the case of ACL's candidate Iohannis, we are no longer speaking of morality, we are speaking of respecting a fundamental principle — nobody is above the law.

Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday he would need to do "a moral gesture" if he loses the case against the National Integrity Agency that has declared him incompatible, a case to be upon ruled by the High Court of Cassation and Justice. AGERPRES
