Milisavljevic: Antiandrogens for multiple sex offenders

BELGRADE - Dusan Milisavljevic, MP of the Democratic Party (DS), stated on Tuesday that he has submitted a draft amendment to the criminal law proposing to introduce medical treatment for pedophiles and serial rapists.

Milisavljevic told reporters in the Serbian parliament that this would be done by means of antiandrogens which diminish sexual desire, stressing that gruesome crimes are happening, including child rape and murder.

"Through the amendment to the criminal law, I have proposed introducing a medical treatment for pedophiles and serial rapists given that they are psychiatric patients," Milisavljevic said.

"I think that this is not returning to the Middle Ages, this is not castration, this is a medical treatment of persons who have committed gruesome crimes such as sexual violence against children and women," he said.

Milisavljevic also proposed introducing a mandatory psychiatric treatment.

Olgica Batic, official of the Christian Democratic Party of Serbia, stated that harsher punishments should be introduced for multiple sex offenders.

She said that during this and the next week, she will submit draft amendments to the criminal law which envisages security measures, including mandatory chemical castration for serial rapists and pedophiles.

The MPs set up this initiative for amending the criminal law following a few cases of child rape in Serbia this year, including kidnapping, rape and brutal murders of two teenage girls.
