British Victim of Ebola in Macedonia Was Most Likely False Alarm

Macedonia's Health Ministry has not confirmed a case of a death caused by the Ebola virus disease in the country.

On Thursday, Macedonian and international media outlets reported that a British national had died of suspected Ebola at a clinic in Skopje and second British national had also been reported to have shown symptoms of the virus.

The two men were said to have stayed at the same hotel, `SUPER 8.`

However, a Spokesperson of Macedonia's Health Ministry informed that the patient had had symptoms of Ebola but there was also great likelihood of another disease.

Macedonian daily Vecer, as cited by dnevnik.bg, said that the man had been an alcoholic.

The man had been admitted to hospital with fever and he had been unable to communicate.

He died shortly after being hospitalized.

A friend of the man, who also had high temperature, was placed under quarantine.

The staff of the hotel where the two Britons had been accommodated and the team of the ambulance which took them to the clinic were also placed under quarantine.

An international laboratory is to process the tests of the dead British national.

Meanwhile, over 700 people were placed under medical surveillance in Serbia in order to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus disease, according to reports of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
