Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, at a meeting with visiting Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), William Danvers on Wednesday voiced Romania's interest in joining the organisation, as he said this is a major objective of the Romanian foreign policy, the foreign affairs ministry said in a release to AGERPRES.

Corlatean highlighted the added value that Romania's membership would bring to the OECD and hailed the launch of the impact study of the current legislation on the competitiveness of the Romanian economy in three key sectors (infrastructure, agriculture and food industry), 'the conclusions of which will contribute to consolidating the competitiveness of the Romanian economy'.

'At the same time, the foreign minister underlined that this programme is a new embodiment of the Romanian institutions' will to strengthen the collaboration with the working structures of the organisation, of the will to adjust its economic policies to the OECD standards and keep promoting the country's candidacy with a view to creating the conditions for a decision favourable to Romania in the future phases of the OECD enlargement', the release said.

The two officials met amid the OECD deputy secretary-general's participation in launching the study called "Analysis of the impact of regulations in force on the competitive environment in key sectors of the Romanian economy," a partnership developed among the OECD, the Romanian Government and the Competition Council.

The OECD is an inter-governmental body aimed at identifying, disseminating and assessing the enforcement of the adequate public policies for ensuring sustainable growths and social stability.AGERPRES
