No reaction to insulting prime minister

BELGRADE - Serbian Interior Miniter Nebojsa Stefanovic stated on Wednesday that he is shocked by the insults to Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic aired in a live broadcast of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) from a football match between Serbia and Albania on Tuesday evening, and particularly by the lack of reaction from the public broadcaster, NGOs and associations of journalists.

Stefanovic said that none of them at least deemed appropriate to apologize over the incident and insults to the prime minister, adding that this shameful act took place in a live broadcast on the national TV station.

"I do not remember any similar incidents in the history of RTS, here we had a brute who was shouting terrible insults to the prime minister in a live broadcast of the national TV station," Stefanovic said.

A group of enraged Serbian fans shortly chanted against Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, and one of the fans shouted insults in front of the camera in a live broadcast by RTS.

"Sincerely, as an individual, I hope that the reaction, which is belated, will nevertheless appear, and I wonder whether the reason behind this incident are the reforms which are being implemented in Serbia and whether there is someone who has something against a strong state, a strong government and people who are trying to do something good for its citizens," Stefanovic said.

The football match between Serbia and Albania was abandoned on Tuesday evening after a drone with a flag bearing an insignia of 'Greater Albania' appeared flying above the pitch at the end of the first half.
