Attacks on bakeries owned by ethnic Albanians

BELGRADE - Several attacks on bakeries owned by ethnic Albanians occurred in Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina on Wednesday and Thursday.

The police have not yet identified the motive, but there is suspicion that the attacks are linked to the political provocation seen at the football match between Serbia and Albania on Tuesday, when a drone with a map depicting Greater Albania flew into the stadium.

The match between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade on October 14 was abandoned after a brawl that followed the appearance of a drone with a map depicting the so called Greater Albania, a nationalist project that would include parts of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece.

The next day, a hand grenade was thrown into the bakery Millenium in Stara Pazova, owned by ethnic Albanian Albon Balaj. Shots were fired at the bakery from a moving vehicle in an earlier incident.

Two employees were inside the bakery at the time, but they were not injured, Radio and Television of Stara Pazova reported.

The bakery Dva brata in Sombor was set on fire the same morningg. It is owned by another ethnic Albanian, Albert Kerhani. He told soinfo.org that the customer area and some hallways had been destroyed in the fire.
"This was a work of individuals. My customers, who mean a lot to me, have been approaching me all morning to express their support," Kerhani stated.
