EU-Southeast Europe Summit starts in Bucharest with policy discussions

An EU-Southeast Europe Summit called 'On the road to stability and growth,' started on Monday In Bucharest, organised by The Economist.

The summit started with policy discussions. Opening the event were former prime minister of Italy Enrico Letta and former Greece Prime Minister George Papandreou, who underscored the important part Romania could play in the region.

Letta said in his speech that there is a very important electioneering campaign going on in Romania, which is his opinion could play a crucial part in Europe, because there are new opportunities.

The political, economic and business outlook for the South-East European region will be discussed by President of the Srpska Republic Milorad Dodik, Albania's Prime Minister Niko Peleshi and Moldova's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iulian Groza.

An official gala dinner was scheduled for Monday, where Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta was to be a guest of honour and keynote speaker.

The second day of the event is devoted to the economy and it will start with an assessment of the weaknesses, advantages and outlook for the entire region. Among the attendees of the second day of the summit will be Romania's Finance Minister Ioana-Maria Petrescu and Croatia's Deputy Minister of Economy Alen Leveric.
