Bilateral screening on food safety begins in Brussels

BELGRADE - The bilateral screening on food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary issues within the Negotiating Group 12 began in Brussels and will last until October 24, the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection released on Tuesday.

During the screening, the Serbian delegation headed by president of the Negotiating Group 12 Danilo Golubovic will present to representatives of the European Commission the overview of legislations in the areas of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary issues, degree of adjustment with the EU acquis and plans for full adjustment.

The release states that this is a demanding and complex area in the process of Serbia's EU accession negotiations which calls for continuous improvements so as to ensure safe and high-quality food for consumers on both the local and foreign markets.

The bilateral screening for the Negotiating Group 12 began in Brussels on Monday, following the completion of the explanatory screening in February.
