Serbia handed 3-0 win but deducted three points by UEFA

NYON - The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body announced Friday that the abandoned Euro 2016 qualifier between Serbia and Albania has the official score of 3-0 in favor of Serbia.

However, Serbia was also deducted three points by the UEFA's disciplinary committee and so neither side will get any points, the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) said in a release.

Serbia will play its next two games as host behind closed doors, while the FSS and the Albanian Football Association (FSHF) were each fined EUR 100,000.

A banner depicting a map of the so-called ‘Greater Albania', a nationalist project including parts of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece, made several passes over and was flown into the stadium by a drone at the end of the first half of the Serbia-Albania European Championship qualifier in Belgrade on October 14.

The banner was eventually pulled down by a Serbia player, who was then attacked by two Albania players, which triggered a brawl between players and also fans who invaded the pitch.

Despite the referee's decision to continue the match and the consent of the Serbian team, the Albanian players refused to return, causing the match to be abandoned at 0-0.

Serbian officials have condemned the ‘Greater Albania' banner stunt, calling it a serious political provocation pulled to cause unrest in Serbia and instability in the region.

Officials in Pristina and Tirana have condemned the violence at the match, pinning the blame on the Serbian side, but none of them even bothered to mention the political provocation with the Greater Albania' map.

Far from it, as Albanian footballers were welcomed home as heroes and Albanians in the region celebrated the incident...
