Gojkovic meets with PACE rapporteur

BELGRADE - Serbia wants to continue full cooperation with bodies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and it supports implementation of the recommendations with a view to further democratisation and strengthening of rule of law, Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic said on Monday during the talks with PACE Rapporteur Samad Seyidov.

Gojkovic expressed gratitude for PACE's continuous support to democratic processes and informed Seyidov about the adoption of reform laws, including the set of media laws adopted with a view to strengthening professionalism and independence of the media.

She underscored that in the European integration process as the country's priority, Serbia has a special interest in the implementation of Council of Europe standards, the Serbian parliament press service released.

Gojkovic expressed the belief that Serbia has made some tangible progress and met the conditions for shifting from the regular monitoring stage to the post-monitoring stage, and Seyidov said that Council of Europe wants to help Serbia make that step forward.

Seyidov underscored that the Council of Europe and Serbia are on the same side in the implementation of the democratisation process, respect of human rights and rule of law.

The PACE rapporteur also expressed interest in the dynamics of the work of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the processes related to European integration, states the release.
