Reformist Bloc Turns Down GERB's Offer to Join Minority Gov't

Right-wing Reformist Bloc's Parliament group heads have rejected a proposal made by GERB leader Boyko Borisov that the two parties co-form a minority cabinet.

After a session of the RB's lawmakers that followed consultations of all political parties in Parliament on Tuesday, both Radan Kanev and Meglena Kuneva said their alliance was not willing to join a minority coalition.

Kanev added the nationalist Patriotic Front, with which GERB agreed in two consecutive rounds of talks to jointly participate in the cabinet, should also be included as initially envisaged.

The two insisted a three-way meeting of conservative Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), the PF and Reformists themselves should be held to discuss a coalition including all of them, the website Dnevnik.bg reports.

A "tripartite coalition" has been tipped as the most likely scenario for weeks, but Borisov said Tuesday morning a minority cabinet with Reformists was "the only option".

The PF is now declining to send politicians to the next government, claiming the new Bulgarian cabinet needs experts.
