PM confers with Goldman Sachs managers

LONDON -- Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić conferred in London on Tuesday with Goldman Sachs top managers for Europe concerning Serbia's fiscal consolidation measures.

According to the Serbian government the meeting was also attended by Serbian Finance Minister Dušan Vujović, Minister of Economy Željko Sertić, and Belgrade Mayor Siniša Mali.

The talks covered economic measures, fiscal consolidation, improvement of the business climate and ways to attract foreign investments.

"We need to create a healthy banking system in order to ensure economic growth," Vučić said.

In this context, the talks focused on the models for solving the issue of weak bank placement and better management of foreign currency risks, as well as the issues related to the quality of infrastructure and infrastructure project management.

The talks also covered the process of support to strategic privatizations, the government said.

While in London, Vučić met with the president of the U.S. company Esmark and said a deal on the sale of the Smederevo-based Železara steel plant was "close.

In the meantime, the American company confirmed that they would take part in a tender due to be called "within 35 to 40 days."
