PES President Stanishev: Victor Ponta will open a new chapter in Romania's democracy

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Victor Ponta will open a new chapter in Romania's democracy, says President of the Party of the European Socialists (PES) Sergei Stanishev.

'The first round of the election is on November 2. The most recent polls show a clear victory of Mr Ponta. There is only one candidate that has the authority, experience and determination to change the political and economic direction of Romania, and his name is Victor Ponta. Voters deserve a president who fights for their rights and the rights of their children, a president who is appreciated in Romania and abroad as well, who has vision for the future,' Stanishev is quoted as saying in a press release issued by PSD.

Stanishev voiced his public support for Ponta in Bucharest at the end of September, when Ponta officially launched his presidential bid. 'Together, we will defend the austerity policy. We will fight for economic growth, investment and jobs,' the PES official said back then. AGERPRES
