EU Parliament Votes on Association Agreement with Moldova

The European Parliament is to decide whether to approve the Association Agreement with Moldova signed in June.

Brussels' move to go on with deeper integration of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, all three part of the post-Soviet space, angered Russia, with Moscow threatening to take a more "aggressive" stance in its trade relations with the countries that it considers to be within its zone of interest.

Earlier Moldova's constitutional court banned all pro-Russian anti-European parties from the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Both Moldovan leaders and NATO officials have voiced their concerns in the past year over a prospective "threat" from Russia in the light of the Ukraine crisis, warning that the Kremlin could seek to repeat the Crimea scenario in Moldova's Russian-populated Transnistria region.

Chisinau's economic relations with Moscow are not affected by the move, though. The two countries signed on Tuesday a deal envisaging gas deliveries at the price of USD 331.8 per 1000 cubic meters in 2015.
