Strong cooperation in fight against crime

BELGRADE - Members of 17 special police units from 12 South-East European countries staged a hostage rescue demonstration exercise within the international seminar on the fight against terrorism in 2014in Batajnica on the outskirts of Belgrade on Friday.

After the demonstration, Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic said that only strong cooperation can win the fight against corruption, crime and terrorism.

Only through joint efforts and strong cooperation can we efficiently counter new risks and threats, and to this end, it is in Serbia's interest to cooperate with most important security factors in the region and beyond, Stefanovic said.

We consider it a huge success that the seminar gathered 36 representatives of special police units from 12 countries in the South-East Europe region, including Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Republika Srpska, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the U.S. and Serbia.

Such a turnout represents the best testimony of the seminar's continuous quality, Stefanovic said.

Members of the special units staged a tactical demonstration exercise on rescue of hostages captured by a group of armed terrorists.

The seminar was organised by the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Serbian Interior Ministry in cooperation with the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program which operates within the U.S. Embassy in Serbia.

The seminar was led by two instructors and lecturers of the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, and the main topic of this year's seminar covered the deployment and tactics of special units in cases of mass hostage situations caused by terrorist acts.
