Bulgaria to Offer Combined Tour Packages with Neighboring Balkan Countries

Bulgaria will try to boost visitor numbers by offering combined tourism products including trips to neighboring Balkan countries.

While Bulgaria alone has been having difficulty selling itself as a tourist destination, a combination which includes trips to Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Albania or Greece is much more interesting for visitors from the Far East, who rush through Europe, rarely spending more than one day in a country, according to the organizers of the first tourism forum of Balkan countries.

The Balkan region attracts tourists from the US, France, Germany and other Western European countries, according to experts.

In the words of specialists, as cited by Monitor daily, the abundance of well-trodden tourist routes makes new destinations stand out.

However, reaching Bulgaria is not an easy task, taking into account that it is lagging behind other tourist destinations by flight connections.

At present, the number of visitors from China, US, India, Iran and other far-off countries is relatively small.

"It turns out that the development of the aviation industry somehow sidesteps Bulgaria," says Bayko Baykov, Chair of the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents.
