Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader Isa Mustafa is tipped to become Kosovo's next Prime Minister after an agreement between the main political aprties to form a coalition cabinet, sources say.

Their decision comes after a six-month-long political deadlock following early elections in June called by then-PM Hashim Thaci.

President Atifete Jahjaga was the first to report in a statement the success marked in talks which are to result in a grand coalition between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the LDK.

The statement however stops short of naming the next Prime Minister.

LDK's press office later produced a statement saying its leader would take up the post.

Mustafa and Thaci's consultations were also attended by the US Ambassador to Pristina.

The LDK is the party of Ibragim Rugova, Kosovo's first President known for his calls for "peaceful resistance" to the rule of former Yugoslavia.
