AGERPRES special correspondent Florian Copcea reports: A Romanian Cultural Centre came into being in the Serbian town of Kladovo, intended for the Romanian national minority in the Techia-Prahovo cross-border region.

"This was possible through the promotion this year of a RON 50,000 worth of project financed by the Department for Policies for the Relation with Romanians Everywhere," president of the 'Danube' Association for the Tradition and Culture of Romanians Tihan Matasarevici told AGERPRES.

According to the cited source, the mission of the new institution created for the Romanians who live in northeastern Serbia is to permanently initiate cultural events that should contribute to preserving Romanian identity and awakening the Romanian national spirit.

"A first action that was already organised and which enjoys a broad audience among ethnic Romanians was the inauguration of an ethnographic exhibition. Displayed here are ancient household items and implements that belonged to our ancestors from the 22 villages with Romanian population of the Kladovo municipality," said Matasarevici.

He explained that in the period ahead, this sole institution of Romanian culture south of the Danube will host meetings with culture beacons from Romania and the Romanian community in Serbia, book release events and even folklore mini-shows.

"As of this week we will also resume Romanian language courses. We have about 20 relevant applications," said Matasarevici.

He voiced hope that by the end of 2014, Romanian youth will also be able to watch at the Kladovo Cultural Center of the Republic of Serbia documentaries and short films for getting acquainted with the history and values of the Romanian people. AGERPRES
