Serbia among founders of DARIAH project

BELGRADE - The Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (DARIAH) project has been officially launched in Paris, with Serbia as one of its founders.

The project was launched earlier this week, with European Commission officials and delegations from 15 countries in attendance.

"By joining this great initiative we have made a major step towards a systematic, lasting and successful development of digital cultural heritage in Serbia," Minister of Culture and Information Ivan Tasovac said.

Serbia's participation in this significant project, granted European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) status by the European Commission, will boost the significance and representation of Serbian cultural heritage on the European scene, the Ministry of Culture and Information said in a statement.

It is our great pleasure that Serbia is one of the founder countries, and we look forward to our Serbian partners helping us shape joint development priorities, and to working together on establishing a wide spectrum of networked services for studying the European cultural heritage, DARIAH Director Laurent Romary said.

Besides Serbia, the DARIAH-ERIC founder countries are Austria, Belgium, Greece, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Cyprus, Luxemburg, Malta, Germany, Slovenia, France, the Netherlands and Croatia.
