Director General of Romania's National News Agency AGERPRES Alexandru Giboi on Tuesday was elected to the board of the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies (BSANNA).

The election was part of the 7th convention of the BSANNA general assembly hosted by Erevan, Armenia.

Alexandru Giboi was recommended to the BSANNA board by Director General of the BTA Bulgarian News Agency Maxim Minchev.

'Alexandru will help us very much through his ideas and work. A new lease of life was needed in BSANNA,' said Maxim Minchev.

Giboi replaces Mikhail Gusman, deputy director general of the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

'In this period marked by political and economic instability in the Black Sea zone, our organisations — ABNA—SE and BSANNA — should undertake an active part in protecting journalists and journalism. It is my duty, as the secretary general of ABNA-SE and a member on the BSANNA board to work alongside my colleagues to the benefit of the member news agencies for the final aim of preserving journalistic independence,' said AGERPRES Director General Giboi.

The BSANNA Black Sea Association of National News Agencies was established in 2006.
