Ceku: Kosovo will soon have its army

PRISTINA - Outgoing Minister of the Ministry for the Kosovo Security Force Agim Ceku stated that Kosovo will soon get its army because at one of the first sessions upon its constitution, the Kosovo parliament will adopt the decision on the transformation of the Security Force into the Armed Forces of Kosovo.

In an interview published by the Pristina-based Albanian-language daily Epoka e Re on Wednesday, Ceku said that the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force into the Armed Forces of Kosovo is running behind schedule because of the delay in the constitution of the Kosovo parliament.

He expressed the belief that one of the first decisions to be adopted by the parliament would cover the formalisation of the Armed Forces of Kosovo.

Ceku expressed trust in the successful realisation of the project because, as he said, this is a 'national project and bears considerable importance for the country and its citizens'.

Ceku claims that the project of transformation of the Security Force into the Armed Forces of Kosovo has widespread support and powerful international allies, and added that he does not expect any problems and complaints from the lines of the opposition because all political parties support the transformation.

Kosovo is celebrating the Day of the Kosovo Security Force on Wednesday.
