Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) and former Prime Minister Vlad Filat considers that the parliamentary elections taking place on Sunday in the Republic of Moldova are the most important voting event since the country's obtaining independence in 1991.

Filat said on Friday, at the end of a meeting with Romania's President-elect Klaus Iohannis, that "the foreign challenges" require the Moldovans to act united in Sunday's elections, for the country to carry on along its European roadmap.

"These elections are the most important since the declaration of independence. Domestic challenges, but particularly the external challenges I'd like to remark, require all of us to act with utmost responsibility, in unity and solidarity in offering the Republic of Moldova a European future, for providing to our citizens a better life in the big family of the European Union," said the PLDM leader.

Vlad Filat expressed his confidence that Romania will be a reliable partner for the Republic of Moldova. "We are convinced that Mr. President Iohannis will make sure that Romania, but the Republic of Moldova as well, have everything necessary for us find each other in the great family of the European Union," added Filat.
