Code Yellow alert of sleet, blizzard, snowfall for 28 counties, Bucharest included as of Sunday evening

The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) on Sunday issued Code Yellow alerts of blizzard, snowfall and sleet for 28 counties, Bucharest included in place starting 10 p.m. on Sunday till Tuesday at the same hour.

Starting 10 p.m. on Sunday till 2 p.m. on Monday, the region of Oltenia and Muntenia, the Banat Mountains and the Western Carpathians area will be hit by mixed precipitation, and the southern of Banat by rainfalls.

The first Code Yellow warning was issued for the following counties: Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Dolj, Valcea, Olt, Arges, Dambovita, Turnu Severin and Giurgiu. In some areas downpours will exceed 15-20 litres per square meter, and roads will be covered by ice. There will be gale-force winds blowing at 40-50 km per hour in south-western and southern Romania, and at 70-80 km/h in southern Banat and the mountain area.

Bucharest will see low precipitation quantities, either mixed or as snowfall, and wind blowing at 30-40 km/h.

Also, starting 2 p.m. on Monday till 10 p.m. on Tuesday, there will be moderate precipitation, mostly as snowfall, on large areas in southern and central Romania, as well as in the hilly and mountain areas, where the layer of freshly fallen snow will locally exceed 10 — 15 cm.

The second warning was issued for the counties of Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Dolj, Valcea, Olt, Arges, Dambovita, Turnu Severin, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Alba, Cluj, Mures, Harghita, Neamt, Sibiu, Brasov, Covasna, Bacau, Vrancea, Prahova, Buzau, Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi, Ilfov and Bucharest.
