The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) on Tuesday at Elisabeta Palace was awarded the Nihil Sine Deo royal distinction on its 100th anniversary.

The distinction was handed over by Princess Margareta on behalf of His Majesty King Mihai I to COSR President Alin Petrache.

"To the Romanian Olympic Committee, a century after its founding and nine decades after Romania's first participation in the Olympic Games, to honour the 301 Olympic medals won by Romania and the tireless work of the Romanian athletes and coaches over time. To encourage the continuation of the Romanian tradition of excellence in sports, both in traditional and modern events. To reward those who put Romania's performances on the map of the world, by their personal sacrifices," the motivation reads.

Attending the event were Prince Radu, Princess Maria and Prince Nicolae, alongside members of the Romanian Olympic Committee.

According to the cosr.ro website, the Romanian Olympic Committee was founded in 1914. The Committee is an association of national interest belonging to the Olympic movement, organized and running under its own statute formulated in line with the provisions of the Olympic Charter and the Romanian legislation in force.

Romania's delegation has attended all editions of the Olympic Games since 1924, except for two summer editions of 1932 and 1948 and the winter edition of 1960.AGERPRES
