NGO says two victims of child trafficking contracted HIV from forced sex

Non-governmental organization Praksis revealed on Friday that two of the 25 victims of child trafficking it helped this year were HIV positive as a result of being forced to have sex without protection.

Praksis president Tzanetos Antypas revealed during a news conference that the children the NGO treated were aged between eight and 14. He added that the men who paid to have sex with the children who contracted the HIV virus paid 5 euros each.

Antypas also gave an insight into the regularity with which Greek men have unprotected sex with prostitutes.

He said that more than two years ago when it emerged that several prostitutes were HIV positive, Praksis received some 6,500 calls from men concerned that they may have contracted the virus.

“In fact, the calls were made in three days so you can imagine the proportion of this phenomenon in Greece during the economic crisis, where women and children are forced to have sex without condoms,” said Antypas.
