Romania had the largest economic growth in the European Union in the third quarter of this year as compared to the prior three months, according to the second estimation published by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat) on Friday.

Thanks to the quarterly 1.8 percent growth Romania leads the EU, while ranking next are Poland (0.9 pct), Britain, Slovenia and Grecia (all with 0.7 pct growth). Drops were recorded by the economies of Cyprus (minus 0.4 pct), Austria (minus 0.3 pct) and Italy (minus 0.1 pct).

Eurostat figures are similar to the ones announced by the National Institute for Statistics, according to which the Romanian economy grew 1.8 percent in the third quarter as compared to the second quarter and it expanded by 3 percent from the same period in 2013.
