Two awards for campaign highlighting violence against media

BELGRADE -- Saatchi&Saatchi Belgrade has won two awards for the campaign ''Chronicles of Threats" at the prestigious European Festival of Creativity Eurobest in Helsinki.

The campaign was done with the Serbian Commission Investigating Murders of Journalists and the OSCE.

It was presented with the Silver Award in the Use of Print in a Media Campaign category, while the Bronze Award was received for Public Awareness.

Previously ''Chronicles of Threats'' won the Bronze Lion Award in the biggest International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France as well as the Silver Drum Award in the regional festival in Portoroz, Slovenia.

International project was initiated with the aim of encouraging a public debate and defining methods of efficient protection of journalists that are exposed to diverse aspects of discrimination, aggression and violence almost on a daily basis.

For the purpose of this campaign, one of 100 authentic threats addressed to journalists was selected and had been made public by publishing an anonymous letter in 70.000 copies in dailies Blic, Politika and Danas. In the same time, video message connected with threats addressed to investigative journalists was posted on websites.

Those threats inserted into newspapers and posted on the internet, had the goal to place the reader in the position of journalists that are being threatened on a daily basis. Apart from directing attention on the problem of violence against journalists, this campaign was also designed to initiate a debate on this issue and to offer framework for defining models of their efficient protection.
