Deal to form ruling coalition signed in Pristina

PRIŠTINA -- Hasim Thaci and Isa Mustafa on Monday signed an agreement to form a ruling coalition in Kosovo.

The two head the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, respectively.

Under the agreement, which was signed in the Kosovo assembly, Mustafa will be the new prime minister and Thaci his deputy and minister of foreign affairs.

After signing the agreement, Thaci said that the priorities of the new ruling coalition would be "economic development and the fight against corruption, organized crime and terrorism."

He pledged that in the period from 2014 to 2018, the coalition would create "the conditions for the opposition and all segments of society to work and be heard."

Mustafa said that the ruling coalition would work "for the benefit of Kosovo and towards resolving all the issues facing it on the road to EU integration," stressing that it would cooperate with the opposition.
