Djokovic, Moldovan and national basketball team best in 2014

BELGRADE - World's top tennis player Novak Djokovic has been declared athlete of the year for the 5th time in his career in the annual selection of the Olympic Committee of Serbia (OKS), while kayak competitor Nikolina Moldovan was chosen as the best female athlete.

Djokovic won Wimbledon this year and finished the season at the top of the ATP rankings, while Moldovan took a bronze and a silver at the world championships in Moscow.

Djokovic was unable to attend the award ceremony on Tuesday, but made a video address to thank for the award and wish future success to all Serbian athletes.

The best team in 2014 was the national basketball team, who won the silver medal at the world championships, while the best women's team award was not presented since no team managed to meet the requirements.

The award for the best young team went to the junior women's volleyball team, who won the European championships, while Nemanja Majdov, who won a silver at the Youth Olympics, was declared best young athlete.

Kayak coach Dragan Plavsic was the best coach of 2014. He coaches Nikolina and Olivera Moldovan, Marko Tomicevic and Vladimir Torubarov, who won 8 medals this year.

Actor and film director Dragan Bjelogrlic won the Sport and Art Award for his two part film story (Montevideo, Taste of a Dream and See You in Montevideo) about the great success of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia football team from 1930, when they won 3rd place at the World Cup in Uruguay.

President Tomislav Nikolic and Minister of Youth and Sport Vanja Udovicic were present at the award ceremony.
