Erdoğan's former adviser to head Anadolu Agency

Şenol Kazancı has been appointed as the new director-general of Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency, according to media reports.

Kazancı previously worked under Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the Prime Ministry and in the Presidency, before being assigned to his new post.

On Dec. 1, Anadolu Agency’s board of directors announced that Kemal Öztürk had resigned from his position as the director-general.

Kazancı, born in 1975 in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, is married and a father of two daughters. He graduated from the Kartal Anatolia İmam Hatip religious vocational high school and then attended law school at Istanbul University.

He became the editor-in-chief of the TVNET station in 2009 when he was 32 years old. He also wrote columns in daily Yeni Şafak until 2011.

In 2011, Kazancı was assigned undersecretary of the Prime Ministry during the period when Erdoğan was the prime minister. He later worked as the chief adviser to the president after he was elected as president in August this year.
