Selakovic: Austria supports reforms in Serbia

VIENNA - Serbian Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic, Austrian Federal Minister of Justice in Vienna Wolfgang Brandstetter and justice ministers from five countries from Central Europe conferred with Federal President of Austria Heinz Fisher on Friday concerning judiciary reforms.

The meeting was held in the presidential residence Hofburg Palace and apart from the justice ministers of Serbia and Austria, it was attended by the justice ministers of Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Romania.

In an interview for Tanjug, Selakovic noted that the participants at the meeting voiced full support to Serbia's European integration and the country's internal reforms.

He noted that the exchange of opinions showed that the judiciaries in the countries which are connected by a shared legal tradition are facing similar problems.

Selakovic underscored that the participants at the meeting voiced readiness to provide assistance to the Serbian Ministry of Justice in the talks on Chapter 23 (judiciary and rule of law) in the EU accession negotiations.

The Serbian delegation headed by Selakovic visited the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice and the parliament building earlier on Friday.

Selakovic and Brandstetter reached an agreement on expert assistance of Austria to Serbia's European integration.

On Friday, the Serbian delegation also conferred with Austrian MP Nikolaus Berlakovich who holds a seat in the judiciary committee and is a member the Austria-Serbia parliamentary friendship group.
