Greeks asked to limit use of fireplaces due to smog risk

The Environment and Health ministries on Tuesday issued a joint statement asking households to limit their use of fireplaces, particularly in urban areas, today as weather conditions are likely to aggravate atmospheric pollution.

Last year and the year before the increased use of fireplaces, triggered by a hike in the tax on heating fuel, left a thick smog over Athens and other cities and aggravated respiratory problems.
