Man caught for author murder

A 26-year-old Romanian man was arrested in Athens on Tuesday on suspicion of murdering author Menis Koumandareas at his home on December 6. Police are also searching for another Romanian man.

Koumandareas was found dead at his home in the downtown neighborhood of Kypseli. A postmortem examination revealed he had been strangled to death. Police believe the two suspects attempted to rob him.

The 26-year-old claimed he had known Koumandareas for more than a decade and that he had gone to his apartment with his friend to ask the author to lend him some money. The suspect claims that the writer refused and that the two men pushed him over in anger, leading to his death.
