Waste site in Ankara's Beypazar? to be turned into park

A waste site that is both creating pollution and causing disturbance in Ankara?s Beypazar? district will be turned into a recreation area. 

The site, located one kilometer from Beypazar??s city center, which is a source of pollution and emits a foul odor, will be transformed into a recreation area including an artificial pond, picnic areas, sporting areas and decorative pools.

Beypazar? is located around 100 kilometers west of Ankara and is a popular destination for residents of Ankara to visit on the weekends. It is best known for its typical old houses, a special food called ?Beypazar? kurusu? made out of dough and its large variety of carrots, from which different kinds of food and beverages are made.

The transportation of the garbage at the site to a new area outside of the city has begun, while the earth-moving and filling work will begin soon after this is completed.

Many waste sites in Turkey have been rehabilitated after a deadly methane gas explosion in Istanbul?s Ümraniye district in 1993, which killed 27 people. The bodies of 12 people killed in the explosion where never found.
