Maior: Other attacks expected in Europe; there have been some thwarted ones in Romania, too

Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) Director George Maior on Monday said that there will be more terrorist attacks in Europe and that there have also been attempts in Romania, but they have been thwarted.

'Within the European services we are talking about the problem of the citizens in western states, but of Muslim origins, who participate in the events in Syria and then come back to the European space either with a radicalisation of their views or with a very good military and planning training, acquired there on the battle field. There are hundreds of such European citizens coming back from Syria to France, the United Kingdom or other European states. This issue creates a direct threat to the European security. Unfortunately, I can only confirm what the British Service MI5 Director, Andrew Parker, says, that there will be other attacks in Europe for this reason,' Maior said in an interview to ziare.com website.

When asked if there had been thwarted attempts in Romania, too, the SRI Director confirmed this thing, but said he would not go into details.

'We acted strictly in the preventive register and we did our job. There haven't been any incidents also due to some more subtle, more discreet actions, which we took into account within the SRI, including by exiling persons, banning the access of some persons under suspicion of such activities and drawing up a precise information picture on the risks we are confronted with,' George Maior explained.
