Thrace muftis condemn Paris attacks
Muftis in Thrace, in northern Greece, have condemned the recent killing of 17 people by Islamist militants in Paris. In a statement Friday, the muftis of Komotini, Xanthi and Didimoticho condemned the ?dissemination of fear and blind violence, whatever their origin, and, in particular, when it comes from fanatics who invoke Islam, vulgarly insulting the holy name of God.?
The muftis, who are tasked with performing certain judicial functions in matters of family and inheritance law, defended freedom of expression while pointing at Thrace as a place of peaceful co-existence between different religious groups.
?We Muslims of Thrace are fortunate enough to live in Greece, a European country that has always genuinely respected Islam and our local traditions, customs and habits,? the statement said.
