Elections for mayor underway in Gracanica

GRACANICA - The Serb-majority town of Gracanica, near Pristina in central Kosovo-Metohija, is holding early mayoral elections Saturday.

A total of 22,229 eligible voters are given to choose between four candidates at 27 polling places.

The candidates are Vladeta Kostic of the Citizines' Initiative Srpska, Berisa Saip of the Democratic League of Kosovo (DLK), Dragisa Miric of the New Party of Kosovo (NPK) and Nenad Rasic of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDS).

The Gracanica Municipality residents can vote with Serbian documents as well, Nenad Rikalo, A Serb member of the Central Election Commission, said earlier.

Kosovo's Central Election Commission has said in a release that the elections in Gracanica will be monitored by 388 accredited observers.

The snap elections for Gracanica mayor are taking place because former mayor Branimir Stojanovic was appointed to the post of deputy prime minister of Kosovo.
