Vancouver to host first Turkish film fest

Cem Y?lmaz's latest film 'Coming Soon' will be shown at the gala of the event.

The Vancouver Turkish Films Festival (VTTF) will be organized for the first time between Jan. 23 and 25.

The founder and director of VTTF, Hakan Burcuo?lu, said their purpose was to promote Turkish culture, arts and identity in Vancouver, the third largest city in Canada and one of the most important filmmaking centers in North America.

The opening of the festival will be realized with the attendance of musician and honorary guest Rahman Alt?n, the composer of the multi-awarded Turkish film "Kelebe?in Rüyas?" (The Butterfly's Dream). Songs from the film will be played at the festival's opening.

Cem Y?lmaz's film "Pek Yak?nda" (Coming Soon) will be the gala film of the event, said Burcuo?lu.

Ça?an Irmak's "Unutursam F?s?lda" (Whisper, If I Forget), "Kelebe?in Rüyas?" and Ozan Aç?ktan's "Silsile" (Consequences) will be screened during the Mainstream Turkish Cinema Selection category of the festival.

The Turkish Art Films Selection category will show Reha Erdem's "?ark? Söyleyen Kad?nlar" (Singing Women) and Onur Ünlü's "Sen Ayd?nlat?rs?n Geceyi" (Thou Gild'st the Even).

Kaan Müjdeci's "Sivas," Ali Ayd?n's "Küf" (Mold), Rezan Ye?ilba?'s "Sessiz" (Silent) and Burak Cem Arl?el's "Türk Pasaportu" (Turkish Passport) will be shown in the Cannes and Venice Showcase category.

The festival will also feature documentary and short film sections.
