EnerMin Andrei Gerea, after meeting IMF representatives: Talks with IMF are going smoothly

With discussions between the IMF [International Monetary Fund] delegation and the Romanian authorities having continued on Saturday in financial and energy fields, the Energy Minister, Andrei Gerea, only revealed the following: "Talks are going smoothly with the representatives of the International Fund, but this is all I can say for now."

According to some official sources, there were three important issues that needed to be discussed in the energy field, among which the liberalisation calendar of the gas market.

The IMF experts on Friday got together with the representatives of all ministries to discuss whether there should be a new agreement concluded between Romania and the international financial body or not.

A mission of the International Monetary Fund led by Andrea Schaechter arrived in Romania on January 27 for the third assessment of the ongoing precautionary agreement. the First two assessments of the current agreement were carried out last year.

According to the IMF resident representative in Romania and Bulgaria, Guillermo Tolosa, as saying before the IMF mission started, consultations were to be held on the Article IV and the third assessment of the precautionary stand-by agreement with Romania, as approved on September 27, 2013. "The members of the mission will discuss with the Romanian authorities about the recent evolutions of the Romanian economy and such shocks that could shake the financial markets.

The current stand-by agreement is the 10th concluded by Romania with the IMF in the past 23 years and the 3rd required by the IMF since the outbreak of the economic crisis in 2009.
