ForMin Aurescu meets Vice President of Brent Scowcroft Center for International Security

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, on Saturday, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on international security policy, had a meeting with Ellen Tauscher, Vice President of the Brent Scowcroft Center for International Security, also a member in the Executive Committee of the Atlantic Council of the United States and chief negotiator for the Agreement between Romania and the US regarding the deployment of the ballistic antimissile system at the Deveselu Military Base.

On this occasion, they made an exchange of opinions regarding the security evolutions in the Romania's eastern vicinity, as well as in relation to the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US.

The chief of the Romanian diplomacy thanked Ellen Tauscher for her activity in matters related to Romania, also showing that the strategic project of deploying the US Aegis Ashore antimissile shield in Romania is close to an end, through the operationalisation of the Deveselu Military Base in 2015 and its integration in the NATO defence system against ballistic missiles, says MAE [Ministry of Foreign Affairs].

Minister Bogdan Aurescu underscored in this context the important potential offered by the strategic cooperation framework between the two countries allowing the development of projects with regional impact, including in the academic and non-governmental environments. "While referring to the current regional context, marked by the crisis in Ukraine, such projects could maintain focus on the developments in the Black Sea," reads MAE.
