President Iohannis: I asked France to support Romania's accession to the Schengen Zone

Special AGERPRES correspondent, Florentina Peia, reports: President Klaus Iohannis on Monday asked France to support Romania's accession to the Schengen Zone, voicing hope at the same time that a positive decision to this end may be adopted as soon as possible.

'I asked France to support Romania's accession to the Schengen Zone. I expressed my confidence that a positive decision regarding our joining the Schengen Zone may be adopted as soon as possible,' President Klaus Iohannis said at the Elysee Palace, where he participated in a joint press conference with his French counterpart, Francois Hollande.

He showed that the landmarks of the bilateral relations between Romania and France are about economic cooperation based on a common desire to strengthen and diversify cooperation in numerous fields of activity.

The Romanian head of state also pointed out that a very important aspect for the authorities in Bucharest he discussed with President Hollande was related to Romanias and the Romanian community's image in the Hexagon.

'We are confident that such disparate facts, when treated with lucidity and moderation, cannot bring a long term negative effect on a relation of mutual respect and political and cultural cooperation. I asked Mr. President Hollande to support our efforts in combating any such discourse reducing such a solid relation to a mere series of cliches,' said Iohannis.

He showed that he also discussed with the French President about priorities at European level and the fight against terrorism.
