Tennis: Romania - Canada, in playoff for Fed Cup's World Cup II

Romania's women's tennis team will compete with Canada's team on April 18 - 19, away, in the playoff for the Fed Cup World Cup, according to the draw carried out in London, on Tuesday.

Romania, after having played last in the Fed Cup in 1992, defeated Spain in the first round of World Cup II, in Galati, last weekend, with 3-2. If it defeats Canada, Romania will play in Fed Cup's World Cup in 2016.

Canada, without its main player, Eugenie Bouchard, was defeated by 4-0, in Quebec, Canada, by the Czech Republic, the trophy holder.

Romania and Canada have only met once before within the Fed Cup, in 1983, in Zurich, Switzerland, when the Romanian team won by 3-0 the first round of the World Cup. Lucia Romanov defeated Angela Walker, by 6-2, 6-3, Virginia Ruzici won in front of Carling Bassett, 7-6, 6-0, and the pair Florenta Mihai/Lucia Romanov won the match with the pair Carling Bassett/Jill Hetherington, by 6-3, 6-4.

Currently, the best Canadian players in the WTA singles ranking are Eugenie Bouchard ? ranked 7th, Aleksandra Wozniak ? 132, Sharon Fichman ? 136, Gabriela Dabrowski ? 184.

The best Romanian players in the WTA ranking are: Simona Halep ? ranked 3rd, Irina Begu ? 34, Monica Niculescu ? 57, Alexandra Dulgheru ? 95, Sorana Cristea ? 102.

Halep is ahead Bouchard in direct matches, with 2-1, after having defeated her last in the WTA Championships, with 6-2, 6-3. Begu lost last month the first match with Bouchard, who won in three sets, with 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, in the round of sixteen in Australian Open. In other representative matches, Eugenie Bouchard is ahead of Cirstea, with 1-0, and Wozniak defeated Niculescu twice and Dulgheru once.
