33rd "Posada" Mountain Huntsmen Battalion leaves on new mission in Afghanistan

The ceremony for the departure on a new mission in Afghanistan of the servicemen of 33rd "Posada" Mountain Huntsmen Battalion will take place on February 13, on the plateau near the Princely Church in Curtea de Arges Municipality, military unit representatives announced on Wednesday.

Representatives of the leadership of the National Defence Ministry, the servicemen's families, representatives of the local public administration, war veterans, but also reserve or retired servicemen were invited to participated in the ceremony scheduled to start at 11,00.

"The 33rd 'Posada' Mountain Huntsmen Battalion will be deployed over March 15 ? September 15 to the theatre of operations of Afghanistan, where it will carry out operations of peace support for the protection of the Kandahar military base, the counselling of the Afghan security forces and the creation of a security climate required for political and social stability," shows a release sent by the military unit spokesman Captain Ovidiu Ciobanu.

The mountain huntsmen of Curtea de Arges have participated in four international missions in the theatres of operations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The mission in Iraq was carried out over September 2005 ? March 2006, with a company-sized detachment. Three missions were conducted in Afghanistan with battalion-type detachments, in the periods June 2007 ? January 2008, January ? August 2010 and July 2012 ? February 2013.

During the mission of 2010, the 33rd "Posada" Mountain Huntsmen Battalion lost four servicemen, post-mortem second lieutenants Florin Badiceanu, Valerica Leu, Dan Ciobotaru and Paul Caracuda. Besides the four heroes who died in the line of duty, other seven mountain...
