'The meetings during prime minister's recent visit to Washington, including with Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and representatives of the US business community contribute toward the consolidation of the strategic partnership between Romania and the US, toward the excellent cooperation in the areas of defense and security, as well as toward the development of economic relations and drawing in American investment in a complex and significant regional context,' Birchall said in a press release on Friday.

She added that economic diplomacy has to become 'an important tool to promote Romania and the opportunities it offers.'

'We have to continue with the efforts of economic diplomacy to capitalise on and develop the potential of Romania to become the first country in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of foreign investment attracted. The efforts of Prime Minister Ponta and his Cabinet, closely coordinated with our strategic partners, strengthen the strategic and stability part Romania plays in the region,' Birchall added.
